On the Search for Innocence. So I just read this book called The Catcher in The Rye by J.D. Salinger. It's a pretty good book, and I went on to YouTube and looked at the book reviews on it. Somehow, all of them seemed to talk of his 'searching for innocence'. Maybe that is what the main character in question, called Holden Caulfield is searching for, but that's not what I thought the context of the book is. Since the death of his younger brother Allie, he has been left feeling empty, null, void; and while he realizes it, he doesn't care enough about the world, or his existence even, to change it. We are the social rejects Our future life holds no prospect. We sit on the wall writing and drawing We are completely, utterly, irrevocably boring. While others go, "Ha ha, hee hee !!" We stop and stare and say, "Really?" While others are inside singing and dancing We are outside doing nothing but nothing. We sit on the wall in converse shoes And about stupid biological issues, we muse. We wear mismatched shirts and pants And we do not care about all the numerous ants.
